Parade day is exciting and very busy. What can you expect?
Plan ahead, arrive early and have fun. While you're waiting for the parade to start, participants can warm up at the UW Richardson College until 4:00 PM.
Remember — things move slowly on parade day. Plan ahead and leave yourself twice as much time as you expect to get to the area, find your spot and have your float inspected.
All entries should arrive/check-in between 10:00 am and 2:45 pm. - large floats should arrive between 10 am and 1 pm. Marshalling streets will be on Sherbrook, Furby, Langside, and Young and must be accessed from Broadway.To access Portage Avenue marshalling area, use Sherbrook, Maryland, or Portage west.
All drivers, walkers and other float participants must be at their marshalling locations no later than 3:45 pm and ready to move into parade position at 4:00 pm for a 4:30 pm final marshalling and 5:00 pm parade start.
At your designated street the block captain will give you lanyards and a Marshalling ID number sign for you vehicle. It is to be displayed on dash of vehicle or anywhere visible. You can then locate your spot that will have a sign with your ID number. Once parked, drivers that arrive early do not have to remain with their floats.
All float/entry participants are welcome to take advantage of the warm-up location at the University of Winnipeg’s Richardson Science Building between Furby and Langside on the north side of Portage. Warm-up is open from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
All participants MUST wear a lanyard. You will be required to submit a list of everyone who is participating in your entry - including kids and drivers. In the case of a crisis or catastrophe, the Winnipeg Parade Committee Inc. and the City of Winnipeg emergency services need a comprehensive list to determine who is accounted for and who might be missing.
Parking and Shuttles: All walkers, marching groups and other participants can park at the Great-West Life parking lot located at Broadway and Colony Street on a first-come, first-served basis. Carpooling is environmentally friendly and highly encouraged! NOTE: There is NO SHUTTLE BUS to the marshalling area this year. After the parade the shuttle buses will leave from the dispersal area at The Forks and make two stops.
If an entry has not checked in by 3:00 pm and/or your driver, participants and walkers are not ready to move into parade position at 4:00 pm, you run the risk of losing your position in the parade.
Dispersal at end of the parade: Floats will access this area by following the end of the parade route via William Stephenson Way. Event Traffic Volunteers will be there to safely direct you to the appropriate dispersal lane.
The judges are located in the transit shelter in front of The Bay Downtown. They'll be watching for your festival faces before and during the event, so keep your smiles bright! Be ready to answer questions about your float and the inspiration for your creation.
Best-in-show awards for the float/entry that most spectacularly incorporates our theme, The Magic of the Season, will be awarded in the four registration categories. Awards will be presented at the Parade Gala on November 28.
