All components MUST be lit including tow vehicle, walkers and mascots.
Entry must be at the designated marshaling area no later than 3:00 pm; do not arrive earlier than 12:00 If additional set-up time is required, it must be arranged prior to parade day. Entries not ready by 4:30 pm will be removed from the parade at the discretion of the Parade Marshall.
The safety of all participants associated with your entry is your responsibility; entries are subject to final inspection. Address any uncovered tires, loose ropes and sharp objects that may harm participants or spectators.
Once the entry enters the assembly area, it comes under the authority of the Chief Parade Marshall (or designate).
Parade Marshall may suspend or cancel any parade entry if it is deemed in violation of any rule and/or the right to remove an entry may be exercised at any time before or during the parade by the Parade Marshall or designate.
NO SANTA’S ARE PERMITTED EXCEPT ON THE OFFICIAL JCI WINNIPEG SANTA CLAUS This includes anyone dressing or appearing in the likeness of Santa Claus. Non-compliance will result in immediate removal.
All entries are encouraged to decorate entry with the theme “Magic of the Season” in mind. Seasonal music is strongly encouraged.
Counter marching, maneuvering, sidestepping or other action is permitted provided the entry maintains a forward motion, consistent with the pace of the parade.
All components of entry must stay together. Mascots, volunteers, collectors or distributors will not “overflow” into entries before or following entry.
Judging criteria will be supplied with confirmation of entry.
Give-aways are allowed along the parade route on approval of the Parade A sample must be provided prior to parade day to obtain approval for distribution. Permitted give-aways must be distributed, in person, along the parade route only. Safety is the priority. Nothing will be thrown.
Alcoholic beverages and smoking are forbidden on any entry. Any participant suspected of being under the influence will be removed.
Automobiles are restricted to “invited” guests and are not acceptable as a complete entry. Antique vehicles may be permitted.
Recognition of commercial sponsors is acceptable, provided it is done tastefully, meets Santa Claus Parade standards and does not dominate the entry. Recognition of sponsors must be done as part of the entry and not as an additional entry associated with float. The Winnipeg Parade Committee reserves the right to reject overtly commercial entries.
Safety of participants and the general public is a top priority. Safety is the responsibility of each individual entry. Entries must comply with all safety, government regulations, codes and manufacturer’s recommendations.
All floats must adhere to fire regulations and carry a 10 lb ABC Dry Chemical Extinguisher (charged, sealed and tagged to indicate date of last service). The extinguisher must be readily accessible and the operator/driver must be familiar with how to operate it. Hay/straw must be treated with a fire retardant substance. Entries are subject to inspection by the City of Winnipeg fire department or designate.
Containers of fuel are not permitted on any parade entry. Fuel tanks must be securely fastened and located away from exhaust pipes, generators and must be equipped with an approved cap.
The parade has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for abuse towards anyone, including staff, volunteers, guests, spectators and other entries. Violators should be reported to Parade Officials on route (or afterwards to the Parade Marshall).
All approved entries MUST provide a Certificate of Insurance for entry and all entry participants. This includes:
- Comprehensive General Liability (“CGL.:’) insurance with a minimum limit of $2,000,000 for each occurrence
- If vehicles are used in entry, automobile liability insurance with a minimum limit of $2,000,000. A certificate of insurance must be provided prior to parade day. CGL insurance must name the Winnipeg Parade Committee, Manitoba Hydro, JCI Winnipeg, Ethero Inc. and the City of Winnipeg as “additional named insured”.
The entrant and all participants shall indemnify, defend and save harmless the Winnipeg Parade Committee Inc. Manitoba Hydro, JCI Winnipeg, Ethero Inc., staff, officers, contractors and their representatives, successors and agents from and against all and any claims, losses, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities due to bodily injury or property damage arising directly or indirectly from the participation in all parade activities either before, during or after the parade.
Entry acceptance is at the sole discretion of the Winnipeg Parade. All decisions are final.
All float entries must supply a minimum of six costumed walkers to walk the route with entry. For identification and safety purposes, names and contact information will need to be identified when entry checks in on parade It is recommended that walkers are lit and costumed in keeping with the theme of the float entry.
BEFORE CONFIRMING YOUR APPLICATION, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT STATING THE FOLLOWING:
- On behalf of the firm/organization/individuals noted above and all persons in the entry described above I, the undersigned, have been given the authority to sign on behalf of the entry and all persons directly and indirectly related to the entry. I have read and agree to comply with the Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade rules and regulations and all directions of parade officials.I further agree that neither the parade, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro nor any of their directors, officers, volunteers, agents, employees, committees or contractors will be liable for any injury to any persons and/or damage to any property suffered in connection with the parade and related activities, including but not limited to parade set-up, parade bleachers, all parade events, on-route operations and parade dispersal, howsoever caused and I agree to indemnify, release and hold harmless each of them from any and all claims for injury or damage. I further agree that I hereby grant the parade legal representatives and assignees the irrevocable and unrestricted rights to use and publish photographs or video of this entry and the entry’s participants , or persons accompanying it, for editorial, trade, advertising and any other purpose and in any manner or medium. I hereby release JCI Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, Ethero Inc. and the Winnipeg Parade Committee and their legal representatives and assignees from all claims and liability relating to said photography and/or other video imaging processes. I further undertake to provide all persons directly or indirectly related to this Entry with a copy of this signed application form, float details form and attached parade rules and regulations.
